Come with us and learn all about one of the largest urban state parks in the United States! The Central Canal at White River State Park is one of our city’s best cultural districts and is full of attractions, museums and activities for the entire family.
We’ll start at the Visitor’s Center in White River State Park. The park’s history goes all the way back to the early 1800’s and on this tour you’ll see firsthand why Indianapolis was selected to become our state capitol. We’ll also see a few places where you might spend the rest of your day – want to swim with dolphins or pet sharks? Go on an art sculpture scavenger hunt? Listen to the crack of the bat in one of the best ballparks in the country? This tour showcases all of these things and more!
From there it is on to the Central Canal where we’ll learn how Hoosier fortitude took a project that bankrupted the state of Indiana and turned it into a recreational gem. And if you ask, we might even tell you what a Hoosier is!
This tour covers 1 mile of walking over the course of 90 minutes with numerous storytelling stops, including some that are inside museums.
