Yes – we currently only accept reservations at least 24 hours ahead of the tour time via the scheduling calendar on our website.
Do you sell gift certificates for your tours?
Yep! Just shoot us a note and we’ll get you what you need.
What happens in inclement weather or if I need to reschedule?
Once purchased, our tickets are non-refundable. However if you need to re-schedule, all we ask is that you contact us 48 hours ahead of your tour time and we would be happy to reschedule you for a future tour date subject to availability.
Our customers understand that our tours are an outdoor activity. We do conduct our tours rain or shine, but reserve the right to cancel a tour if Mother Nature brings extreme weather conditions along with her. Should this occur, we will be happy to reschedule you for an alternate tour date.
Do I tip the guide?
Only if you thought the guide delivered a performance worth tipping. If so, 10-20% (or more if you are so inclined) is always welcomed.
Our walking tours typically cover ~2 miles over the course of 75-90 minutes. There are plenty of stops along the way where we’ll be appreciating the sights and history of Indy and the pace between stops is always casual.
What should I bring on a walking tour?
Our tours provide fantastic photo opportunities, so a camera is a must! Comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather are essential. Don’t forget sunscreen! If it will be warm out, you may also want to bring along sunglasses and a bottle of water. Just keep in mind that we are unable to securely store any of your belongings, so please don’t bring anything you can’t carry along during the tour.
Are the walking tours suitable for children?
Of course! For our walking tours children of all ages are welcome and we offer discounted pricing for children who are 12 or younger. Children under the age of 5 are free. It is our experience that younger children will enjoy the White River State Park & Central Canal tour most.
Where do the walking tours start?
That depends on which tour you select, but all tours begin in the heart of downtown within a few blocks of each other (and within a few blocks of all Indy’s great hotels!). So once you select your tour, take note of the starting location and then head over to the Maps & Directions page to find the starting location.
We’re glad to hear that, because we’re not Lance Armstrong either! Our tours are designed for the enjoyment of cyclists of all abilities and are led by riders who are experienced at safely guiding groups through urban environments. Tours are casually paced to keep the group together and have frequent stops where your guide will share a story or two about Indianapolis. Tour routes will utilize both dedicated bike paths as well as city streets, so guests do need to be aware and alert of their surrounding at all times as we will be sharing space with pedestrians and automobiles.
How long are the tours?
That depends on the tour, but we typically will cover between 12-18 miles over 2.5 – 3 hours with numerous stops along the way.
Can I bring my own bike?
We do allow you to bring your own bike if you’d like, but it must be in good working order and we are unable to provide technical support out on the tour if something should go wrong. ActiveIndy reserves the right to require you to rent a bicycle in the extreme instance that we determine your bicycle is not safe.
I’m not sure I’m comfortable riding with a group – do you offer personal tours?
Absolutely! We can customize one of our tour routes to help you build your confidence by creating a personalized tour for you or your group – just contact us to discuss your needs!
Where do the biking tours start?
Our biking tours start at the Indy Bike Hub located in the east wing of historic City Market which is a 5-10 minute walk from all downtown hotels. Our Maps & Directions page has parking information if you are coming in from a surrounding area.
The same way our walking and biking tours work – we jog at a casual pace from one location to the next, stopping frequently to tell you a little about the people and places that make Indianapolis such a great city.
How fast do we run?
Even though Florence Griffith Joyner set the 100m World Record a few blocks away at our downtown track stadium, we aren’t looking to set any records of any kind. Our pace will vary depending on who makes up the group, but we keep everyone together and have numerous stopping points along the route where we gather back together if the group does string out.
